Call Him Shepherd

When you address God in prayer, what do you call him? Father? God? LORD? Jesus? Counselor? Friend? There are dozens more. Use them all.

Today, might I suggest you use this one—Shepherd.  He likes it when you use it because it describes perfectly how he cares for you. Like an earthly shepherd, he anticipated your arrival, and your birth was not a surprise to him. He cleaned you off and dedicated his life to you, in fact he gave up his life for you on a cross 2000 thousand years ago.  And now he lives to shepherd you.

Remember that time you strayed, and the grass wasn’t as green on the other side as you thought?  He went after you and brought you back.

Remember that time he walked you on rough roads?  He was making your legs strong for the future.

Your Shepherd has always been with you and always will be.  Even when death showed its teeth at you, he’ll lead you to the empty tomb can remind you that death can never hurt you.

We are foolish sinful sheep who love to wander, but he is a perfect, faithful shepherd who loves to deliver.

Today when you call him, “Shepherd”, let a smile come across your face.  There will most definitely be a smile on his.

“Hear us, Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock.” -Psalm 80:1
